The Best Guarantee In The Universe

Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.

~Hebrews 7:22

Have you ever found yourself wondering if God is really there? If His promises truly apply to you? We all face moments when our faith feels shaky, when we wonder if our prayers are being heard, when God's presence feels distant. These spiritual doubts are not signs of failure but part of our human journey. I want to share a powerful truth from Hebrews that can anchor us when doubts arise.

If you take a close look at Hebrews 7:22, the word "guarantor" means someone who personally ensures a promise will be kept. In ancient times, a guarantor would stake their reputation, resources, even their life on fulfilling an obligation if the primary party couldn't.   The author of Hebrews is telling us something remarkable: Jesus himself stands as the personal guarantee of God's covenant with us. This isn't just a contract or a legal arrangement. This is Jesus saying, "I personally guarantee that God's promises to you will be fulfilled." And unlike the old covenant that depended on human obedience, the new covenant is secured by Christ's perfect sacrifice. When we doubt, we must remember our relationship with God doesn't depend on our perfect faith but on Jesus' perfect guarantee.

So how do we live daily with this divine assurance when doubts creep in? Let me offer three practical steps:

  1. Acknowledge your doubts honestly. When uncertainty comes, don't hide it or feel ashamed. Instead, bring your doubts directly to Jesus, your guarantor. Say, "Lord, I'm struggling to believe right now, but I'm trusting that you're still guaranteeing my relationship with God." Thomas doubted, yet Jesus met him exactly where he was.
  2. Review the evidence daily.  Each morning, take two minutes to recall specific ways God has proven faithful in your life. Write them down. These acknowledgements are your evidence that the guarantor has been working. When doubts arise, pull out these reminders.
  3. Act on the guarantee, not your feelings.  When you feel distant from God, make one small decision based on His promises rather than your emotions. Perhaps reach out to encourage someone else, give generously, or simply speak truth aloud: "Jesus guarantees my standing with God today, regardless of how I feel." Remember, a guarantee works whether you feel confident about it or not.

Your spiritual doubts cannot invalidate Jesus' guarantee. Bank accounts are secured by the FDIC; your salvation is secured by something infinitely more reliable – the finished work of Christ. So tomorrow morning, when uncertainty tries to steal your peace, remember Hebrews 7:22. Jesus himself guarantees your covenant relationship with God. No doubt can ever change that eternal reality.
