New Book Fall 2026: No Ordinary Days
![]() |
| I write a lot of stuff down . . . this is just the last ten years. |
My dad told me when I was in high school to enjoy life while
I was young, because life had a way of becoming very ordinary after you grow
up. That stuck with me, because it didn’t sound at all appealing. I decided
right then and there I wasn’t going to have an ordinary life. In fact, I decided I wasn’t ever going to
have an ordinary day.
And I started something way back then that I still do today.
I’ve been keeping a journal since I was in high school, and after
dad told me that, I started writing in those journals, every day, at least one thing
that was unique about that day at the top of the page—one thing that made that
day like no other day previously. I’ve
done this now for more than four decades, and that habit has changed the way I’ve
viewed life. I go into each day looking
for that one remarkable thing. Sometimes
it’s a good thing, sometimes it’s a bad thing, but I’ve never failed to find
that one thing that makes every single day unique.
When Dad passed away in 2023, I started writing down stories
I wanted to share with my two daughters.
Those journals have come in handy as I’ve been writing. The project also got a big boost when I
attended my 40-year high school reunion and was reunited with old friends and
reminded of forgotten adventures.
But I realized something as I was writing these stories
down. There was a theme emerging. I wasn't just sharing some random memories with
my daughters, I was writing a story about faith—stories about God teaching me
lessons about life, and life teaching me lessons about God. And I realized there might be some things
about faith I’ve learned that others could benefit from.
The Lord is always with us in, even in our everyday
moments—in the mundane, the routine, the seemingly insignificant parts of our
days. As Psalm 139:16 reminds us, "Your eyes saw my unformed body; all
the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to
be." Every single day is part
of God's extraordinary plan for our lives, and we should never waste even a
single one.
"No Ordinary Days" will be published in Fall 2026.
I'm excited to share this journey with you and hope it encourages you to see
God's presence in your own everyday moments.
