Sunday Scripture: To Receive Forgiveness, You Must First Forgive

If you want to be forgiven, you first have to forgive others.  You shouldn't expect the Lord to do for you what you're unwilling to do for others.  That principle is repeated more than once.  For instance, Mark 11:25 says, "And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."

That's not always easy to do.  First of all, it's not easy to admit when we're wrong and ask for forgiveness.  Secondly, it's never easy to let go of hard feelings when we feel we've been wronged.  But that's the expectation.  It starts with us.  You can continue to carry those hard feelings and old hurts around with you for the rest of your life, or you can be free of them once and for all.  You must forgive to be forgiven.
